Introduction to Business Simulation
Project Overview
The Introduction to Business Simulation is an interactive learning experience designed to help beginners understand the core functions of running a business. Through scenario-based activities, users step into the role of a business manager and make strategic decisions across four key areas: Human Resources, Marketing, Sales, and Finance.
My role as the lead user experience designer was to define the end-to-end experience. Organizing the content into a intuitive, cohesive flow, create decision-based interactions, and ensuring the simulation translates to real-world business practices while also being approachable for beginners
Requirements
From early discussions with product stakeholders and subject matter experts, several core requirements emerged:
Four Distinct Decisions Area: Users needed a structured sections for HR, marketing, sales, and finance. Each section with a unique purpose but consistent interaction pattern.
Scenario-based Decision Making: Users needed branching choices that simulate realistic business challenges.
Cumulative Impact: Users needed to make decisions in one area that could influence the outcomes of others.
Clear Guidance and Feedback: Users needed actionable explanations of how their decisions affect the business and how to improve.
Iterations
I mapped out the experience with a low-fidelity wireframe designed to validate the flow and reduce cognitive load.
User testing and subject matter expert reviews revealed several areas for improvement.
Final Design
The final Introduction to Business Simulation offers an engaging, structured way for users to learn business fundamentals. It delivers a cohesive, confidence-building introduction to business. Helping users understand not just what decisions to make but why they matter in the broader context of running a successful business.
